A Legacy of Artistic Excellence Since 1857

Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur, established in 1857, is the oldest institution dedicated to fine arts education in the State of Rajasthan and one of India's historic centres of visual arts. Founded under the patronage of Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, the visionary ruler of the erstwhile princely State of Jaipur, the institution has played a pioneering role in preserving and advancing the rich artistic traditions of Rajasthan while embracing contemporary creative practices.

The institution was originally established as "Madrasa-e-Hunari" (Institute of Art) in 1857. As art education expanded, it evolved into the renoawned "Maharaja School of Arts and Crafts" in 1886, offering instruction in nearly forty disciplines of art and craft. Today, as the Rajasthan School of Art, the institution continues this distinguished legacy, serving as one of India's respected centres for higher education in the visual arts.

Academic Excellence

Operating under the Commissionerate of College Education, Government of Rajasthan, the institution has earned a reputation for academic excellence spanning more than one and a half centuries. Since 2013, Rajasthan School of Art has functioned as a Postgraduate College, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that combine rigorous studio practice with creative research and academic inquiry.

Affiliated with the University of Rajasthan, the institution prepares artists, educators, designers, researchers and cultural practitioners who contribute significantly to the creative landscape of India.

Rajasthan School of Art provides well-equipped studios for Painting, Sculpture, Applied Arts and other visual art disciplines, enabling students to explore both traditional techniques and contemporary artistic practices. The college library houses a valuable collection of more than 6,000 books, journals and reference materials covering painting, sculpture, applied arts, art history, aesthetics and related fields, providing an important resource for teaching, research and artistic development.
